About Sounds of the Spring
Sounds of the Spring is a music festival held each spring in Downtown Milledgeville. This event features performances by a collection of artists from Milledgeville, Athens, and Atlanta. Guests require a wristband to enter the participating venues.
Formally known as Sounds of the South, the festival was founded in 2012 by Georgia College students with the intention of offering a music-filled night that would help stimulate local economic growth. These students also wanted the proceeds to benefit nonprofit organizations.
After a period of dormancy, Sounds of the South was revived in 2019 with a mission to raise money for the Central State Hospital Local Redevelopment Authority, which aims to renovate the grounds at Central State into a community garden, venue space, and works on the mental health museum for the old Central State Hospital.
On March 3rd, 2023, the festival was once again revived post-covid, hosting 15 local artists across four venues. Later the same year, the festival rebranded to its current name, Sounds of the Spring, and has been hosted every year since. In April 2026, Sounds of the Spring sold over 250 tickets; WGUR’s most successful SOTS yet!
